This note is a collection of some of my favorite keyboard shortcuts that I use on a daily basis and speed up my Productivity. Some of them are specific to Windows because that is the operating system I use at work. That is also the reason why I try to learn and stick to the defaults, as I cannot install something like AutoHotKey on my work Laptop unfortunately.

The Basics

If you learn nothing else, these will speed up your use of any computer dramatically and become second nature very quickly.

  • Alt + Tab
  • Ctrl + Tab
  • Windows + Tab
  • Ctrl + Shift + T opens the last closed tab
  • Ctrl + W closes the current tab
  • Ctrl + R refreshes the current page
  • Windows + D to show the desktop on Windows
  • Windows + L to lock your desktop on Windows

Frequently Used by Me

  • Windows + Shift + S to open the Snipping Tool
  • Ctrl + Shift + Escape
  • Ctrl + Win + Left

Less Common but Still Neat

  • Win + . opens the emoji keyboard in Windows
  • Windows + V opens the Windows Clipboard (if history is enabled)

Shortcuts that Work Well on 75% | 84-Key Keyboard Layouts

These might only work due to the close proximity of the right control key to the Home and End keys that are usually too far to comfortably use together with the right hand.

  • Ctrl + End
  • Ctrl + Shift + End
  • Ctrl + Home
  • Ctrl + Shift + Home
